I think I just got a message, inside my helmet...
I’m about three miles out from the city, and until now, my helmet’s been acting up—neon lights flickering erratically and an endless, grating beeping sound. I gave it a solid knock, hoping to fix it, and miraculously, it worked. The beeping stopped, but what happened next caught me off guard.
An audio message started playing—distorted, broken up by static. At the end of the message, two words stood out, though interference made them hard to catch. As the voice faded, my visor flickered to life. For the first time, a heads-up display lit up, showing a cipher I’ve never seen before.
I’m scrambling to make sense of it. Those two words in the message feel crucial, but I can’t quite make them out. Meanwhile, a countdown timer has appeared, ticking down from five minutes. Each passing second is accompanied by a piercing beep that’s impossible to ignore. To make things stranger, a GPS overlay has activated on my dashboard, marking a destination 3.5 miles ahead—dead centre in the city.
It’s like someone’s guiding me. Is it someone I know? Could it be Rico, trying to draw me into another ambush? If that’s the case, I’ll be ready this time.
The timer’s already down to 2:58. I don’t have time to hesitate. Whatever’s waiting at that destination, I need to find out before the clock hits zero.
